What to Do after the Collapse of Lehman Brothers?

Bookmark and Share

In the flood of news that has come out recently, it’s tough to see anything but doom and gloom.  But before you hit the “sell” button, it’s important that you stop and make sure that your decision makes sense from an intellectual, rather than an emotion perspective.

I came across an informative article yesterday from Marketwatch.com:

http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/perspective-not-panic-help-you/story.aspx?guid=%7BAF7E58D3%2D23C6%2D47E4%2DA178%2D9270F6343A46%7D

There are a few things to take out of this article that I thought might be worth sharing:

  • You shouldn’t panic, we could have a majority of the decline behind us
  • Now is not the time to go all-in, although there may be some good buying opportunities with the right companies
  • Shareholders of Lehman Brothers and Neuberger Berman mutual funds will not be impacted
  • Now is not the time to make any major changes to your account
  • Stay in touch with your advisor; if you absolutely cannot stomach this volatility then you should be having a conversation with them

I hope you find this helpful and as always, feel free to contact an advisor by email at info@smart401k.com or phone at (877) 627-8401 if you would like to talk through your situation or have any questions about your investment strategy or account.
