The situation

A couple gets married. Horray! Each newlywed is about 15 years away from the age he/she has always imagined retiring. They’re head-over-heals in love, and they’re in it for the long-haul. But they avoided talking about money prior to taking the plunge. Both people have been independently earning and budgeting for years, so each feels confident that they have a solid financial foundation.

To commemorate Veteran’s Day on November 11, this week our blog posts will focus on personal finance for military personnel. However, our topics are broad enough that civilians and soldiers alike should be able to use the tips and info we’re providing.  After you read our blogs, we encourage you to pass them along to friends or family who could also benefit. And be sure to thank a soldier this week!

I hear stories about military personnel who return from deployment to find that their credit is trashed and the budget is a mess. You can readily imagine how that could happen – it can’t be easy to balance your budget and pay your bills from halfway around the world. Or is it? There are some online budgeting tools available now that could provide the answers that soldiers and their families have wanted for decades.
